The MetaZoo Sample Set was released shortly after the Kickstarter in multiple waves and officially ended sale on November, 7th 2020. The sample set has its own marker
1st wave: Defined by a clear packaging and one Holo card max (confirmed at 450 total produced).
- There are two main varieties of these packs - roughly 300 had 10 total cards (9 Silver, Bronze cards, 1 Gold card), and the remaining ~150 had 3 cards (2 Silver, Bronze cards, 1 Gold card).
2nd wave: Defined by a fat foil packaging (confirmed at 1500 total produced).
- There are two main varieties of these packs - roughly 800 had only a single Gold card and the remaining 1200 had two Gold cards (generally 1 Cryptid card and a 1 Spell/Artifact card).
3rd wave: Defined by a thinner foil packaging (confirmed at 2000 total produced).

4th wave: Defined by 2.5x3.5 paper envelopes with a MetaZoo stamp (confirmed at 2000 total produced).
*The signed and numbered envelopes (1 through 500) were only done with the first 500 sample packs. The first 250 envelopes have a special border, and the second 250 envelopes have a special gold embossed envelope. After that Metazoo stopped using custom envelopes because people were buying the packs and they had opted to use bubble mailers to protect the packs*
- Sample cards have various errors. These were introduced by the printer who had a designer edit the cards before printing.
- The back colors of the holo vs non holo cards are slightly different.
- Despite not technically being first edition, the cards are indeed marked with a first edition symbol.
